What is adrenal exhaustion?

· Adrenal Glands, Blog · Comments Off on What is adrenal exhaustion?

Are you feeling regular tiredness, a lack of enthusiasm, and a lower sex drive?

Your adrenal glands are two glands that sit on top of your kidneys.  They are the size and shape of a walnut.  They become exhausted like a battery running out of charge.

The adrenal glands are very important in the body since they produce over 50 hormones.  The adrenal cortex produces two main groups of corticosteroid hormones—glucocorticoids and mineralcorticoids.  The principle mineralcorticoid is aldosterone, which maintains the right balance of salt and water while helping control blood pressure.  The adrenal cortex releases small amounts of male and female sex hormones.

The adrenal glands affect all major physiological functions in the body.  Adrenals are involved in the metabolism and conversion of carbohydrates, fats and proteins to produce energy in the body.

If you feel low energy, low sex drive and tired all the time, you may have adrenal exhaustion.

Bowenwork® for Pain:  A Winner, Hands Down

· Blog, Bowen Therapy · Comments Off on Bowenwork® for Pain:  A Winner, Hands Down

A 17-year-old female had “spasms up and down (her) back every 30 seconds, which were painful and exhausting.”  After a visit to the ER and a spinal tap to check for meningitis, they gave her pain meds and muscle relaxers and sent her home.  Nothing changed.

The next day, during the firstBowenwork® move of our session, everything relaxed.  She felt “pops, as it seems that bones moved into place.”  After the session, she was “relaxed but sore the next day.”

The spasms did not come back.

What just happened?  Are the results repeatable?

Bowenwork® is an example of the best naturopathic medicine.  And yes, I see results like this time after time, as witnessed in my practice.

Bowenwork®acknowledges the vis medicatrix naturae, the Healing Power of Nature, using gentle rolling moves over muscles, tendons, and fascia to facilitate and augment this inherent self-healing process.  Sometimes called the “homeopathy of bodywork,” Bowenwork is unusual in that the moves are performed in specific locations on the body followed by pauses of several minutes between sets of moves to allow the body to integrate the effects of the work.  In addition to a reduction of pain, increased mobility and a general sense of well-being, it is common for patients to sleep more soundly and then have increased energy levels.

Angela’s Story – Bowen and Rheumatoid Arthritis

· Blog, Bowen Therapy, Women's Health · Comments Off on Angela’s Story – Bowen and Rheumatoid Arthritis

When I first met Angela I knew Bowenwork could help her with all the medical problems that she was experiencing at such a young age. After knowing her for about six months she finally set up an appointment and began treatment. I made sure she understood that healing is a process, sometimes difficult and sometimes taking a bit of time. I also asked for assurance that she was willing to live a life without all the physical ailments that had been a big part of her life. I knew from experience that doing only, if not part, of the BRMs would be possible, and that less was definitely going to be better. After turning her supine on the first session her neck moved from side to side involuntarily, causing her some concern. I assured her that it was part of the body’s way of integrating the messages of the Bowenwork moves. I told her I could stop the process at any time but that I preferred to let it do its thing if she was comfortable with the movement. We let the head continue moving for more than half an hour and then turned her on her side in a fetal position. She was sore the next day, but from that point on she has made great progress in working with her conditions. The involuntary movements that the body makes after Bowenwork moves can be considered ‘Psychophysical Re-education’ as termed in Listening To The Body by Robert Masters Ph.D. And Jean Houston Ph.D. “Psychophysical Re-education is a neural re-education which makes the nervous system demonstrably more responsive and amenable to change. Psychophysical exercises are in part effective communications to the brain, specifying bodily changes which the brain can and will effect in response to the appropriate stimulus.” Bowenwork is the stimulus to change in all parts of the body.

Bowenwork® shows promise for faster and more complete healing from concussions

· Blog, Bowen Therapy, Straight Talk for Men · Comments Off on Bowenwork® shows promise for faster and more complete healing from concussions

Nowhere is the magic of Bowen more evident than in time-critical sporting applications. Eyes wide, an alarmed player dashes out of the game both hands clutching his sternum, or grimacing in pain gingerly carrying a wrist aloft, or limping and contorted, favoring an injury that is not immediately evident, or staring vacantly staggering and unsteady. He or she may only say, “can’t breathe” or “something popped” or “my fingers went numb” or “I saw stars.”

Some may think that they have a job or do something that will always irritate a condition. “Just another six years until I retire and then my back (or whatever) won’t hurt.” It’s really about setting up patterns that the body uses to heal. Example: Bowenwork® will reset the effects of mild traumatic brain injury (concussion), oftentimes within hours. It also sets the stage for recovery from the next injury with a new pattern of quick repair. Remember how quickly you bounced back from stuff when you were a kid?  This isn’t like teaching an old dog new tricks; it’s more like your body remembers. Imagine your body suddenly remembering the way it’s supposed to work.  That’s what Bowen does.

What are the odds of this actually working? About 80%. You in or not?

Read Nathan White’s story below.  It’s just one example of a person making a full and lasting recovery, but it provides hope that Bowen Therapy could prove to be a revolutionary approach to dealing with concussions in the sports world.

Bowenwork® for Men

· Blog, Bowen Therapy, Straight Talk for Men · Comments Off on Bowenwork® for Men

Your gluteus maximus (butt) and hamstrings are like the shock absorbers in your truck; if you replace them with 2x4s, your back is going to take a real beating every time you take a step. Every Bowenwork session includes a basic set-up procedure that relaxes those muscles. The pelvis is like your alignment; if it’s off, your tires are going to wear badly (knee and foot problems). The kidney procedure is like changing your oil filter. With any luck, your body is even smarter than your truck. Pain-relieving, muscle-relaxing and anti-inflammatory drugs are defensive drugs that let us continue to ask muscles to do things that our bodies are telling us not to do. They mask or defend us from unpleasant body reactions to injury. Am I the only guy who has ever put electrical tape over a trouble light on the dash? The result is that we often get the same pain back with a vengeance. You tell me if that game plan has been working. It’s time to get on the offensive (healing) side of the ball and put your body to work doing something constructive like running some new plays around the same old defense. Bowenwork pulls the playbook out of your back pocket and hands it to you.

What are the odds of this actually working? About 80%.

Tune up your Body with Bowenwork®

· Blog, Bowen Therapy, Straight Talk for Men · Comments Off on Tune up your Body with Bowenwork®

When your car engine is misfiring, you take it in for a tune-up. If your vision is a getting blurry, you go in for new glasses. A piano tuner is called when your playing is a bit off key. But what can you do when your body is showing signs of wear and tear and needs resetting? Bowenwork can help the body to restore its natural balance.

What is Bowenwork? Developed by Tom Bowen of Geelong, Australia in the mid-1950’s, the practice is based on the principle that our bodies have been designed with an inherent healing ability as can be seen in cell regeneration and the mending of fractured bones. But sometimes the body gets stuck and Bowenwork helps to trigger this natural healing ability.

Bowenwork Maternal & Newborn care

The Bowenwork offers unique and exciting possibilities in optimizing the outcome of both mother and baby in the preconception, prenatal, labour and delivery and postpartum situations. This article by Sandra Gustafson highlights how and why this technique is so successful.

So just what is this technique?

Bowenwork has often been touted as “the most exciting form of bodywork that is revolutionizing healthcare modalities around the world!” Quite a profound statement, but I have come to see it integrated into all sorts of health care arenas (allopathic and traditional healing facilities) and believe it to be so.
